FAQs2021-01-06T09:07:56+00:00
WHY IS A 3-LAYER CONSTRUCTION IMPORTANT?2025-03-25T14:13:38+00:00

3-layered construction provides the most stable format for engineered hardwood flooring, when produced with the single species hardwood core layer we use – Hevea Brasiliensis. Hevea shares a similar density and strength as White Oak and outperforms plywood or softwood core material. This means that not only can we produce wider, more attractive floor boards, our material has far greater stability under extreme climatic conditions from the sub-zero winters of Scandinavia to the year-round warmth and humidity of South East Asia.

The Hevea Brasiliensis (rubberwood) used in our engineered flooring is sourced from plantation-grown timber in Indonesia. Timber is procured in accordance with applicable legal sourcing requirements and our documented procurement procedures.

WHAT MATERIALS ARE USED IN FORESTRY TIMBER’S ENGINEERED HARDWOOD FLOORING?2026-08-10T23:26:27+01:00

Depending on the product and collection, the hardwood wear layer is made from Western European Oak, Tasmanian Oak, Pecan, Douglas Fir, or Ash.

The standard three-layer construction uses Hevea for the core and Sengon for the backing layer. Selected products are also available with European Oak used for all three layers. Please consult the relevant product specification for the exact construction.

WHICH PRODUCTS ARE FSC® OR PEFC™-CERTIFIED?2026-08-10T23:30:49+01:00

Forestry Timber’s flooring products can be supplied with FSC® or PEFC™ Chain of Custody certification, subject to material availability and confirmation at the time of order. Certification must be specified before production begins. Certified material will incur an additional charge.

WHICH PRODUCTS HAVE AN ENVIRONMENTAL PRODUCT DECLARATION (EPD)?2026-08-10T23:31:33+01:00

Our Environmental Product Declarations apply to the thickness of the planks, 14.2mm and 22mm with Hevea core and Sengon foundation or 15mm and 22mm tri-layer European Oak.

WHAT INDOOR-AIR-QUALITY AND VOC CERTIFICATIONS DO YOUR PRODUCTS HOLD?2026-08-10T23:32:20+01:00

All Forestry Timber’s products are FloorScore® certified and achieve an A+ VOC classification under the French Émissions dans l’air intérieur labelling scheme as well as No Added Formaldehyde. Blue Angel Certification applies to products in our Origins Collection. Certification and testing scope may vary by product, so please contact our sales team for the applicable certificates and test reports.

DO YOUR PRODUCTS CONTAIN ADDED FORMALDEHYDE?2026-08-10T23:33:03+01:00

Forestry Timber’s flooring is manufactured using no-added-formaldehyde adhesive. This does not mean that the products are completely formaldehyde-free, as formaldehyde occurs naturally in wood. Supporting test reports and product documentation are available on request.

WHERE ARE FORESTRY TIMBER’S FLOORING PRODUCTS MANUFACTURED?2026-08-10T23:33:45+01:00

Forestry Timber’s engineered hardwood flooring is manufactured in Indonesia.

IS FORESTRY TIMBER’S ENGINEERED FLOORING SUITABLE FOR UNDERFLOOR HEATING?2026-08-10T23:34:26+01:00

Yes. Forestry Timber’s engineered flooring is suitable for use with compatible underfloor heating systems when installed and operated in accordance with our installation instructions. Please confirm the suitability of the selected product and heating system before installation.

CAN FORESTRY TIMBER’S ENGINEERED FLOORING BE SANDED AND REFINISHED?2026-08-10T23:35:15+01:00

Forestry Timber’s flooring is coloured using reactive stain technology. Sanding removes part of the coloured surface and may significantly change or reduce the intensity and appearance of the original colour. It also reduces the thickness of the hardwood wear layer.

Sanding may be possible where the remaining wear-layer thickness permits and a change in colour is acceptable. The floor should be assessed by a qualified flooring professional before any sanding or refinishing work begins.

WHAT INSTALLATION METHODS CAN BE USED?2026-08-10T23:35:33+01:00

Forestry Timber’s engineered flooring is available with tongue-and-groove or 5G® Välinge locking systems, depending on the product. Compatible installation methods may include floating, full-surface glue-down and nail-down installation.

The appropriate method depends on the selected product, subfloor and site conditions. Always follow the relevant installation instructions and confirm suitability before installation.

HOW SHOULD FORESTRY TIMBER’S ENGINEERED FLOORING BE CLEANED AND MAINTAINED?2026-08-10T23:36:42+01:00

Maintain the room at approximately 20°C with relative humidity between 45% and 60%. Remove dust, sand and grit regularly using a soft broom, static mop or vacuum cleaner fitted with suitable floor-protection pads.

Clean spills immediately and never allow moisture to pool on the floor. When cleaning, use a well-wrung damp mop – never a wet cloth and ensure that any residual moisture evaporates within one minute. Use felt protectors beneath furniture and suitable entrance mats in high-traffic areas.

Do not use traditional wax or steel wool on lacquer-finished flooring. UV-oiled floors may require an appropriate oil-refresher treatment every three to six months, depending on their condition and the product manufacturer’s instructions. Consult a qualified flooring professional before repairing damaged areas.

For complete instructions, see our Installation & Maintenance guidance.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AN EPD, FSC®, PEFC™, FLOORSCORE® AND VOC A+?2026-08-10T23:39:36+01:00

An Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) presents independently verified information about a product’s environmental impacts across defined life-cycle stages. It includes indicators such as global-warming potential, resource use, waste and end-of-life impacts. An EPD reports environmental data; it does not certify that a product is environmentally superior.

FSC® and PEFC™ certification relate to forest management and the traceability of forest-based materials through the supply chain. Chain of Custody certification allows eligible certified material to be tracked from its source through manufacturing and distribution.

Timber used in products not supplied with FSC® or PEFC™ certification is procured in accordance with applicable timber-legality requirements. We maintain supplier, origin and supply-chain documentation supporting the legality and traceability of the timber.

FloorScore® is an indoor-air-quality certification that assesses VOC emissions from flooring products.

The French Émissions dans l’air intérieur A+ classification indicates very low emissions of volatile pollutants into indoor air. Ratings range from A+, representing very low emissions, to C, representing higher emissions.

WHAT WARRANTY IS PROVIDED WITH FORESTRY TIMBER ENGINEERED FLOORING?2026-08-10T23:40:20+01:00

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF ENGINEERED HARDWOOD FLOORING COMPARED WITH SOLID HARDWOOD?2026-08-10T23:40:59+01:00

Engineered hardwood is 100% real wood with greater dimensional stability than solid hardwood. It supports wider planks, flexible installation methods and compatible underfloor-heating systems, depending on the product.

Accuracy of colour and wood characteristics: whilst we have made every effort to ensure the colours and wood characteristics displayed on our website are as accurate as possible these images may vary from the actual product.
